Card Stock is the term used for heavier weight paper or basic card. This is a term used mainly in Scrapbooking!
Chalking...
Chalking is a technique used to highlight and shade paper or card using acid-free chalk or pastels.

Circle Cutter’s are the perfect tool that will enable you to create a circle easily.
Corrugated...
Corrugated is a term used when you create ridges or ripples in a piece of paper or card.

To shape into folds or parallel and alternating ridges and grooves.
Crop...
Crop is the name given to a group of people getting together with others to Craft together and socialise.
Cropping...
Cropping is the term used to trim your paper and photos to suit your project.
Chipboard..
Chipboard aka: Book Board is a thick “card-like” board that is acid-free.
Personal Trimmer...
A personal trimmer is a small, portable cutter used to cut straight lines on paper or card.
Photo Safe...
Photo Safe is another term used to describe paper and paper products that have a safe acid level for use in Scrapbooks.
Decorative Scissors...
Decorative Scissors are regular scissors but their blades are shaped so that when you cut paper or card you are left with a decorative edge rather than a straight line.

Die-Cut...
Die-cut is the term used for cardstock which has been cut into various shapes by using a die-cut machine such as the CraftROBO or similar cutting machine.
Dry Embossing...
Dry Embossing involves placing your paper on top of a stencil or embossing board and applying pressure with an embossing tool to outline a pattern, shape or word leaving a raised image on the front of your paper.

NOTE: Various embossing boards are available with images / text on to trace round with a metal / plastic stylus pen.
Embellishments...
Any decorative element that can be added to your card / scrapbook that is not a photo or made of paper.
(Eg: buttons, beads, jewels, sequins, charms, brads, eyelets, fabric flowers, ribbons etc...)

Peel-Offs...
Peel-off Stickers are metallic outline stickers supplied on a sheet. These come in various images / text. Peel away the sticker and place onto paper, card, metal, acetate etc. Colour them in with gel pens, pencils, paints etc or stick onto coloured card / foam and cut out. The “waste” section can also be used.
NOTE: Masking tape aids removal and helps with positioning onto your card.
Decoupage...
Decoupage is the name used for layering paper / card “cut out” shapes on top of each other, using silicone glue or foam-pads to create a 3D layered effect by raising the initial image.
Dimensional Adhesive...
A clear glue which can be used in layers to glaze items. (creating a raised look). Dries clear and glossy.
NOTE: Air-bubbles need to be popped with a pin prior to drying.
Embossing...
Creates a raised image by stamping a design using embossing ink, then sprinkle embossing powder on top, remove excess and using a heat-gun, the powder is melted to leave behind the raised stamped image.
Foam Pads / Tape...
Foam pads / tape comes in various thickness / sizes. They are double-sided and used to raise images up from the background to create a 3D effect.
Glossy Accents...
Glossy Accents is a clear glaze that’s very versatile as it can add dimension to your images, use a thin layer to make it glossy or add ink to create a “glass paint” effect.

Heat Embossing Tool...[Heat Gun]
Used for Embossing... It works like a hair-dryer but is much hotter. A jet of heat melts and set your embossing powders. NOTE: Heat Guns are not like hair-dryer’s as they only give out heat not air!

Inks...
Quick drying inks are perfect for stamping with or running around the edges of paper / card to add definition.
NOTE: “Embossing Inks” are used with a heat gun only.
I
Journaling...
Journaling is the name given to the written part on your scrapbook enabling you to document the who, where, what, when and why of events on your pages. Journaling can be written, typed or simply use die-cut wording.
J
Jump rings are small wire circles, mainly used in jewellery making. They are used to link charms together through ribbon.

TOP TIP: Although these can be expensive, you can make your own by wrapping wire around a thick nail and cutting with a wire cutter.
Eyelets...
Eyelets are metal elements in various shapes, colours and sizes. They are attached, once a hole is punched, by hammering the eyelet until the back has opened securing them together. Always use a specialist eyelet setting tool.
Ink-jet Printers...
Ink-jet printers ink is acid-free and suitable for your scrapbooks. However, if exposed to light it will eventually fade. If exposed to liquids it will also damage the image. Black and White images will last longer and it’s suggested that you use your acid-free pens / pencils to colour them in if you wish them to last longer.
Glue Dots...
Little “blobs” of adhesive, available in permanent or repositionable and used to adhere embellishments etc.
Fonts...
Fonts are computer generated letters / alphabets.
Jump Rings...
Flock...
Is a velvety powder that is poured over a sticky surface then rubbed / pushed down. Remove excess and you are then  left with a fuzzy velvet texture to your surface.

Scoring...
A technique used to a line or fold in your card / paper. This can be achieved with a scoring machine, scoring board or a ruler. You draw the line with either a stylus embossing tool, back of your “flat” craft knife or a “used” biro. When scored you can use a bone folder or ruler to create a crisp sharp fold.

Rubber Stamping... [Stamps]
Also known as Stamping... An image / text is carved out of a rubber sheet and adhered to a wooden / acrylic block. Ink is then applied to the rubber image, pressed onto card / paper to leave behind an inked image. Stamps can also be used with various felt-tip pens, inks and Embossing Powders.
Scraplift...
Scraplift is the term used to copy an idea in part or whole from another persons layout / page for your own use.
Silent Setter...
An alternative to the traditional eyelet setting tool and hammer... but without the noise. It is easy to use by applying your weight, through your hand which enables the tool to quickly secure the eyelet in place.
Shrink Plastic...
Shrink plastic which can be painted, stamped, coloured in and heated, using a heat-gun. Once heated, it shrinks, hardens and thickens. If you need to make it into a charm, remember to punch the whole “before” heating.  Clear shrink plastic sometimes needs an emery board / sanding paper rubbed over the side to stamp to act as a “key” to enable the ink to adhere.
Stencil...
A plastic or brass template with pre-cut images / text which requires you to trace / cut out.
Stickers...
Stickers that are acid-free are perfect embellishments for Scrapbook pages / Greeting Cards.
Tape Roller...
Tape rollers are an easier way to apply double sided tape to your paper / card. They come with a ribbed section near the tip to indicate where your finger goes. This also helps you hold the tape roller correctly. Some are available with refills and others have single-use only.

Vellum...
Vellum is a plain or patterned transparent paper, often used in Scrapping.

Vellum requires special glue as most glues are visible through vellum.

Wire...
Coloured wire is available and can be wound around a pencil to create a spiral / spring. You can wrap wire around a thick nail to create jump-rings. Wire peg boards are also available to create your own text / images too!

Xyron...
Xyron is actually a “Company”... but still qualifies for this glossary section. Xyron provides laminating, magnet and sticker making machines in various sizes from hand-held to desk-top versions. The sticker maker allows you to turn “ANYTHING” into a sticker... perfect for your card / scrapbooks.

Zig is another “Brand” of water-based markers. Perfect for journaling. Archival and acid-free too!

Silicone Glue “gel”...
Silicone glue is an all-purpose clear glue “gel”, perfect for card-making, scrapbooking and decoupage. It’s suitable for paper, card, glitter-card, plastic, glass, ceramic, fabric, wood, mirror, polystyrene and various metals.

Pinflair” glue gel is odourless, silicon free and dries clear. Applied via the tube, a syringe or cocktail stick. Un-opened it will last up to 12 months unopened in the tube and up 2 months in the syringe. Once exposed to air it will harden, but if left to dry in the syringe it does dry to a “jelly” type consistency. Allow up to 24hrs to dry.
Punches...
Punches are tools that cut shapes. There are many styles, shapes and sizes available that work much like a regular hole punch.
Punch Art...
Punch Art is the term used when using punched shapes to create pictures.
Quilling...
A technique where you tightly roll up thin strips of paper and glued to create different shapes / characters.

Red Eye Pen...
A red eye pen is a special pen used to reduce the red eye effect in original photos.
R
PVA Glue...
PVA glue gives a lovely strong bond but do use it sparingly as it’s “wetness” tends to “warp” paper.
NOTE: When used with felt, the felt stiffens.
PNG files...
Portable Network Graphics files are images with a transparent background.

Acid...
Acid is a product used in paper manufacturing that is responsible for speeding up the deterioration of paper or photos. This is what causes them to turn brown and brittle.
A
Acid-free...
Acid-free refers to paper and products that have had their acid removed - creating a safe pH level.

Perfect for preserving your documents for longer as this entails your paper / photos etc won’t turn brown or deteriorate over time.
Alkaline...
Alkaline pH levels - above 7.0
Archival...
Archival is a term used to describe paper and products that have a pH level of 7.0 or above.

Archival items are especially permanent, durable and acid-free and will generally last 100 years or more before deteriorating.
Brads...
Brads are two-pronged fasteners [pins] used mainly as a decorative effect on scrapbook pages. They can be used to secure layers together such as Glitter card with paper etc. These come in various shapes / sizes and colours.

Layout...
Layout is another name for a Scrapbook page.

Also Layout implies the placing of images on a page / card before all the elements are adhered down.

Lignin...
Lignin is a substance naturally found in wood and therefore in paper and paper products.

Lignin is acidic and unsafe for photo preservation as it slowly deteriorates the image.
Memorabilia...
Memorabilia is anything that you have saved that holds special meaning for you. Mementos that are original items such as ticket stubs, keys, flowers, material from your baby’s favourite clothes etc.
Memory Book...
Memory Book is another name for a Scrapbook.
Matting...
Matting is a term used to make your photos “pop” out on your page. Put simply, it’s another word for sticking one piece of card onto another but leaving a small (5mm) border all around the edge.

Bone Folder...
A tool that is used to create “crisp” folds in paper / card which creates that “professional” look to folds. Traditionally made of bone... Modern versions are plastic!
B
Mulberry Paper...
This paper has long fibres that create a “feathered” look to the edges when torn / ripped.
Neutral...
A pH value of 7.0 = not acidic!

Opaque Pens...
Opaque pens are perfect for doodling / writing onto dark paper / cardstock.

Page Protectors...
Page Protectors are acid-free polypropylene covers that slip over finished pages in a Scrapbook.

ATC’s...
Artist Trading Card’s... Are tiny works of art, traded between artists. Each card measures approx: 2.5” x 3.5”. ATC’s collected are saved and stored in a specialist binder. NOTE: ATC’s can NOT be sold!
Brayer...
A brayer is a small rubber “rolling-pin” styled tool that is used to apply inks / paints onto paper to create unique backgrounds. Also suitable for flattening out /smoothing papers.
