GIFTS TO TREASURE
Looking for a unique birth, christening, wedding or special occasion gift?
Newly-launched web site www.keepsakesilks.com has been set up by Northamptonshire mother-of-two Lisamarie Howard.
From it you can order personalised "keepsakes" like silk painted cushions, handmade by Lisamarie, featuring details like names, dates and weights of a new baby.
Wellingborough-based Lisamarie, 30, discovered a flair for silk painting after making a cushion for her son, Kyson, when he was a baby.
"In each block I put things like his date of birth, weight, zodiac sign and other basic information and then made another cushion for his christening," said Lisamarie.
"I got so many comments from people about what a novel idea they were, I decided to give it a go." Lisamarie set up Keepsake Silks with a grant from the Prince's Trust which went toward the initial cost of materials. The name of the company represents the initials of her son, now 28-months-old, and six-year-old daughter Shaunni. When her husband left her, Lisamarie needed to work but couldn't afford child care. Her new venture allows her to work while Kyson is asleep during the day and when they're in bed at night.
"I can do all sorts of designs from tooth fairy cushions with a little pocket for the tooth, new home, Easter and Mother's Day," added Lisamarie.
